  • Competition: Champions League qualification
  • Date: 22nd July 2025
  • Kick-off: 19:45 UK / 20:45 CEST
  • Venue: Ibrox Stadium

A fascinating match is set to take place on Tuesday evening in the Ibrox area of Glasgow, as Rangers host Panathinaikos for the first leg of the second qualifying round of the Champions League.

Rangers once again failed to end their four-year Scottish Premiership title drought last season. They have now finished second in each of their last four league campaigns, securing a place in the qualifying rounds of European football — an opportunity they have made the most of on several occasions. Notably, Rangers reached the Europa League final in the 2021–22 campaign while in the 2023–24 campaign, they reached the round of 16 in the Champions League.

Panathinaikos's run without a league title is even longer than that of their hosts. The Greens have not won the Super League Greece title since the 2021–22 campaign. Last year, they came very close to ending this drought, finishing second and clinching a spot in the Champions League qualifying rounds for the first time in two years.

Rangers vs Panathinaikos Betting Tips: Over 2.5 goals

The Gers had defensive issues towards the end of last season, conceding 10 goals in seven matches and this problem has not been resolved. Their only pre-season match, against Club Brugge over two weeks ago, ended in a draw, with both sides scoring twice. However, Rangers could have conceded more goals if not for their goalkeeper.

Panathinaikos played four pre-season friendlies, winning two and drawing one, while losing the other to Braga. The Greens kept two clean sheets but only one of those matches saw fewer than three goals scored.

  • Best Tip: Over 2.5 goals
  • Rangers vs Panathinaikos prediction: 2-1
