Nottingham Forest

Date:
Fiorentina
Contents
- Competition: Club Friendlies
- Date: 5th August 2025
- Kick-off: 19:45 UK / 20:45 CEST
- Venue: City Ground
All eyes will be turned to the City Ground in England on Tuesday evening, when Nottingham Forest and Fiorentina face off in a pre-season friendly. The English side are favourites to win the game at their home ground, having performed well at home in the closing stages of last season. However, that isn’t to say the visitors have no chance as they have won both of their preseason games so far.
Tuesday’s game will be the first time these two sides play each other in any competition. The Violets' most recent match against an English team was against West Ham in the Conference League final in Prague in June 2023 — a match in which the Italians lost 2-1. Forest haven’t played against a side from Italy in a while.
Nottingham Forest team overview
Forest were one of the surprise packages in the English top flight last season. Under the guidance of Nuno Espírito Santo, the Reds secured a seventh-place finish, just one point shy of a top-six position, and also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
With the departure of Anthony Elanga, one of their key players last season, they are likely to struggle in attack in the upcoming campaign, as we have already seen in pre-season.
Forest remain without a win in their five preseason games so far, and failed to score in all but one of those encounters. The good news ahead of Tuesday’s game is that they have a fully fit squad.

Fiorentina team overview
Fiorentina experienced another heartbreak in European football last season when they were knocked out of the Europa League in the semi-finals.
Raffaele Palladino’s team did not perform well in the league, but they managed to secure some crucial victories in the final month of the campaign, particularly against Bologna and Udinese.
The Violets have played two pre-season matches so far, winning both, and will be hoping for more of the same on Tuesday in England against Forest.
In terms of injuries, the Italian side will be without Christian Kouamé, who has missed the last 21 games due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Prediction
Given how well the two sides have performed defensively in their pre-season encounters so far, it would be no surprise to see a cagey game at the City Ground on Tuesday. Nottingham Forest kept a clean sheet in three of their five preseason games so far, while Fiorentina have kept a clean sheet in both of theirs. Bearing this in mind, I believe that the under 2.5 goals option is the best bet for this match.
Three reasons we expect under 2.5 goals in this game
- At least one side failed to score in five of the last six games of Forest.
- Fiorentina have kept a clean sheet in each of their two preseason friendlies.
- Averagely one goal per game has been scored in Forest five preseason encounters so far.
