The two national teams have faced each other four times, with Guinea holding a slight edge thanks to two wins and one defeat. Among these encounters was a thrilling 4-goal draw during the 2016 African Nations Championship, where both sides shared the spoils in a captivating clash.
Niger team overview
The Niger national team will be hoping to match, if not improve on, their standout CHAN run in 2022, which saw them advance to the final four stage, only to be comprehensively beaten 5-0 by then-hosts Algeria.
Menas head into this year’s African Nations Championship on the back of a respectable preparation phase, suffering just a single defeat to Oman across seven warm-up matches, while claiming three wins and three draws in that stretch.
Defensive solidity proved to be one of Niger’s key assets during their preparations, with four clean sheets recorded across seven friendlies, and head coach Ezzaki Badou will be counting on that same foundation at the back to help his side start their CHAN campaign on the front foot.
For CHAN, the Menas have called up nearly all the players who battled Morocco in the World Cup qualifiers back in March, signaling their intent to make another strong impression at the tournament.

Guinea team overview
After securing fourth place in Rwanda in 2016 and a bronze medal in Cameroon in 2020, Guinea fell short in the most recent edition held in Algeria, failing to even reach the knockout stage — a disappointment they’ll be desperate to rectify this time around.
However, the National Elephants’ prospects of advancing beyond the group stage in this edition appear rather bleak, with their recent form offering little encouragement — they are currently winless in five straight outings, a stretch that includes a trio of underwhelming June friendlies (D2 L1).
Adding to their list of challenges ahead of CHAN 2025 is their alarming lack of firepower in the final third, with their solitary goal over the last five matches arriving in a tame 1-1 stalemate against the Central African Republic during their final pre-tournament test.
Guinea will head into the tournament without their marquee names, including Borussia Dortmund star Serhou Guirassy and PAOK midfielder Mady Camara, meaning the spotlight will fall on players from the domestic league.

Prediction
The momentum heading into the Kampala showdown clearly favors Niger, who approach the opener with greater tempo, stronger displays in recent friendlies, and notably superior attacking efficiency that could prove decisive. Given that Menas have found their scoring touch with six goals in their last four appearances, whereas Guinea have barely troubled the scoreboard with just one strike over the same stretch, this disparity in forward efficiency could very well shape the outcome. In addition, the National Elephants come to CHAN 2025 without their strongest line-up and without their star players, and if you consider that this selected squad is struggling to score, all factors point to Niger being closer to opening this tournament in winning fashion, especially if they use their offensive surge.
Four Reasons we expect Niger to Win
- Niger have gone unbeaten in five consecutive matches, winning two of them.
- Niger have kept a clean sheet in four of their last seven friendly matches.
- Guinea have gone five straight matches without a win, losing two of them.
- Guinea have found the back of the net only once in their last five matches.
