Mauritania vs Burkina Faso prediction 13.08.2025 | African Nations Championship

The Mauritanian football team has never had significant successes, but they have been slowly improving in the last few years. Mauritania played in the previous three African Cup of Nations, while in the last Africa Nations Championship, Lions of Chinguetti, as they often call themself, reached the quarterfinal. 

Although Mauritania improved, they struggled this year. Mauritania headed to the African Nations Championship with five games without victory. The bad run was prolonged with only one point in the first two rounds of the tournament (against Madagascar and Tanzania). The desired victory finally came in the previous match, when Mauritania won 1-0 against the Central African Republic. Aritz Lopes' team didn't show much in that game but found a way to win. With that victory, Mauritania moved to second position on the table and has a solid chance to progress to the playoffs. 

Burkina Faso have become a respectable football team in the last three decades. They had four Africa Cup of Nations semifinals in the previous three decades. However, Burkina Faso never had significant success at the African Nations Championship. 

Burkina Faso played well in 2025. They came to the African Nations Championship with only three defeats in ten matches. However, they started the tournament with a 2-0 defeat against Tanzania. Burkina Faso were significantly better in the next game in which Issa Balbone's team won 4-2 against the Central African Republic. With that victory and one game fewer played than Mauritania, Burkina Faso can hope to finish among the top two teams in the group and progress to the playoffs.
