- Competition: Premier League
- Date: Friday, 15th August, 2025
- Kickoff: 20:00 UK / 21:00 CEST
- Venue: Anfield (Liverpool)
The wait is finally over - football fans around the world can once again enjoy one of the most exciting leagues in the game. In the opening match, reigning champions Liverpool will host Bournemouth at Anfield. Before the season kicks off, the bookies see the Reds as the main title favorites, offering odds of around 2.9. They are followed by Arsenal (3.6), Manchester City (4.5), and Chelsea (10). While Liverpool's goal is to win the title once again, Bournemouth will aim to stay away from the relegation zone and, perhaps, secure European football for the first time in their 126-year history.

Last year, Liverpool won both of their h2h games (2:0 and 3:0). Looking further back, expectedly, Liverpool have had much more success. They won the last five h2h games and also 12 out of the previous 13 matches. Bournemouth's only win during that 13-game stretch was in March 2023.
Liverpool team overview
Liverpool were undoubtedly the best team in the league last year and deservedly won the title, leaving Arsenal 10 points behind. However, that gap between them could have been much larger, but the Reds lowered the intensity in the last few games, winning only two points in four matches because it became apparent the title is imminent.
Over the offseason, the club was active, and we believe they have gotten better. Yet, the Reds opened the season with a loss to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield after the penalty shootout. After the game, Virgil van Dijk said they need to improve defensively, but also noted he isn't too worried. The team's captain also urged the club to sign another striker during this transfer window. According to speculations, Alexander Isak is their primary target.

Bournemouth team overview
Bournemouth's results have constantly improved since their return to the English top-flight division in the 2022/23 season. They finished 15th, 12th, and eventually ninth in the last year. The Cherries will definitely aim to repeat such success, but we are not really sold on them after an underwhelming offseason.
A few key players left the team and joined some European giants - Ilya Zabarnyi to PSG (63 million), Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid (62.5 million), and Milos Kerkez to Liverpool (46.9 million). Several other players left, including Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was on a loan deal. To be fair, they did bring in Djordje Petrovic as a goalkeeper replacement, along with Adrien Truffert. Still, we believe the squad has become significantly weaker, especially in defense.

Prediction
Liverpool have been the best team in the league last season, and we believe they have only improved over the offseason. Yes, they opened the season with a loss in the Community Shield, but we believe that will only urge them to take the opening game more seriously. Last year, the Reds won 66% of their league games, but at Anfield, that number was 74%!
Bournemouth had mixed results in the pre-season, having three wins, two draws, and two losses against solid teams. However, we firmly believe this team will have massive problems at the back after losing three key defenders.
Also, Liverpool won in 12 of the last 13 h2h games while covering the -1.5 AH spread on ten occasions. Considering the trend in the previous h2h games and all the above, we believe the Redds will dominate and secure a big win over the Cherries.
3 Reasons why Liverpool should win and cover the -1.5 AH spread
- Liverpool won 12 of the last 13 h2h games
- Last season, Liverpool won 74% of their home PL games
- Liverpool's total market value is around 1.04 billion euros, compared to Bournemouth's 434.45 million.
