Gibraltar are one of the worst national teams in the world, currently ranked #196 on the FIFA World Ranking List. In Europe, San Marino and Liechtenstein are the only teams worse placed than them. So, it is not a surprise they haven't appeared in any major tournament, and that will hardly change. At this point, even scoring a goal against anyone is a success. In the previous EURO and WC Qualifiers, Gibraltar failed to win a point with a terrible goal difference. Not surprisingly, they started the WC Qualifiers with two losses against Montenegro and the Czech Republic and will likely continue that trend against Croatia.

Croatia has been among the best national teams in the world, having two fantastic campaigns in the World Cups, finishing second and third in Russia and Qatar. To be fair, their performances in recent tournaments could be better as they finished EURO in the Group phase and also lost against France in the UEFA Nations League Playoffs. Due to duels against France, they have yet to play a game in these World Cup qualifiers.

Gibraltar vs Croatia pick: Croatia to win and cover the -2 AH spread

Gibraltar lost the first two games against the Czech Republic (4:0) and Montenegro (3:1). Those teams are significantly weaker than Croatia. If they dominated against Gibraltar, the Croats should do even better. Gibraltar had some good games before the WC Qualifiers, but those were against teams in the UEFA Nations League that are around their level. Against good or mediocre teams in the previous World Cup and European Qualifiers combined, they lost all 18 games, allowing 84 goals - an average of 4.7 per game.

Croatia haven't been as consistent as we are used to them in recent years. Still, the main reason for this is because they played only against the very best national teams.

Away from home, Croatia had its struggles. However, the game against Gibraltar presents the perfect opportunity to reverse this negative trend with a big win.

In their only h2h game, Croatia dominated 4:0. Simply, the difference in quality is too great, and anything but a massive win for the visitors would be a surprise.

Gibraltar team news

In March 2025, coach Julio Ribas left the NT due to personal reasons, and the FA appointed Scott Wiseman as the new head coach. Interestingly, in his first games against Montenegro and Czechia, he entirely changed the starting lineup compared to the ones under Ribas. The coach is trying to play with a younger squad and build the team for future endeavors.

Croatia team news

Midfielder Mateo Kovacic is not called for the upcoming games as he underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon. The 31-year-old will spend the summer rehabilitating and is expected to recover in approximately three to four months. Additionally, Borna Sosa and Martin Erlic will also miss the game for the same reasons.

Earlier this year, coach Zlatko Dalić signed a new contract with the national team, extending his tenure until the end of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
