- Competition: UEFA Europa League
- Date: 14th August, 2025
- Kickoff: 19:00 UK / 20:00 CEST
- Venue: Henryk-Rayman-Stadium
Shakhtar Donetsk will welcome Panathinaikos to the Henryk Rayman Stadium on Thursday for the second leg, which will decide who advances to the Europa League play-off round.
The first leg in Athens ended in an uninspiring 0-0 draw in which neither team was able to create many clear-cut goalscoring opportunities. Panathinaikos had a higher xG value (1.25) than Shakhtar Donetsk (0.77), but that was clearly not enough to capitalise on the Ukrainian side's superiority and take a positive result into the second leg.

Panathinaikos team overview
Panathinaikos put up a brave fight in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers against Scottish Premiership side Rangers FC, despite conceding a red card in the first leg at Ibrox. Panathinaikos are yet to start the season in Greece and have only played three games in the UCL and UEL.
Fullback Giorgos Vagiannidis is still suspended after his sending off in the first leg against Rangers. Giannis Kotsiras slotted into his place instead against Shakhtar Donetsk last week.

Prediction
Although Shakhtar Donetsk failed to make the most of their chances in the first leg, they are clear favourites to progress to the next round. The Ukrainian side are still unbeaten after their first five games in the Europa League and have won both home games, scoring eight goals in the process. They have also gone four out of five possible games without conceding a goal and we are therefore betting on another home win for Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday.
Three reasons we expect Shakhtar Donetsk to Win
- Shakhtar Donetsk dominated possession against Panathinaikos in the first leg away from home - 61% against 39%. They also had the same number of shots as Panathinaikos - 11 - and accumulated an xG of 0.77, which was not much worse compared to Panathinaikos’ 1.25
- Shakhtar Donetsk defeated Besiktas 6-2 on aggregate in the previous round
- Shakhtar Donetsk have been flawless in European home fixtures this season so far — winning both matches, scoring eight goals, and not conceding once
