England U21 are defending champions at this level and are hoping to replicate their 2023 success. Lee Carsley's team is very close to qualifying for the second phase after four points from the first two rounds. In the opening round, England U21 convincingly won 3-1 against the Czech Republic U21. However, three days later, Carsley's team were surprisingly held to a 0-0 draw against Slovenia U21. Despite dominating the game and finishing with an expected goals (xG) of 2.40 compared to Slovenia's 0.56, the Three Lions were ultimately unable to convert their chances into goals and had to settle for a single point.

Germany U21 are another favorite for the title at this year's tournament. They opened the competition with two wins, so Antonio Di Salvo's team already progressed to the quarterfinals. In the opening round, Antonio Di Salvo's side cruised to a 3-0 win over Slovenia U21, followed by a 4-2 victory against the Czech Republic U21 just three days later. With qualification already secured, Di Salvo is expected to rotate his squad and rest key players for the final group-stage match.

England U21 team news

After a tough 0-0 draw against Slovenia U21, England U21's manager Lee Carsley was slightly disappointed. He said, "It was a very tough game. We definitely didn't underestimate Slovenia, who are a good, well-organized team. I definitely think we had enough chances to win, though, so the frustration is that we didn't take those opportunities. I expect us to be better against Germany. I think we'll need to freshen the team up."
