Darmstadt are probably closer to mid-table than the top, but they had an excellent preseason and the fans hope their team has chances for promotion. Darmstadt won four of five games in the preseason. The last came was against the strongest team this summer, Hoffenheim, so it is no surprise that Florian Kohfeldt's team lost 3-1. 

Darmstadt left some important players from the last season like Andreas Muller, Oscar Vilhelmsson, and Philipp Forster, but it seems that the club found adequate replacements. The most important signing is probably center-back Patric Pfeiffer, who came from Augsburg. The other big additions are Bartosz Bialek (Wolfsburg) and Yosuke Furukawa (Jubilo Iwata). 

Bochum last season ended last in the Bundesliga, but they hope to bounce back and return to the strongest level of German football. Dieter Hecking's team had an excellent preseason with a 4-2-1 record. The only defeat came in the last test when Bochum lost 2-0 against Bayer Leverkusen. 

Bochum left some important players, too, like Tim Oermann, Bernardo, and Dani de Wit, but they strengthened the team enough this summer. The most important addition is Kjell Watjen, who came from Borussia Dortmund. Important additions are also Ibrahim Sissoko (St. Etienne), Colin Kleine-Bekel, and Leandro Morgalla (RB Salzburg).
