Championship
Lately, Sheffield Wednesday have been a more successful team. In the last seven games, Sheffield Wednesday won five times, and twice the games ended as draws. The last time Bolton managed to secure a win was back in 2017 when both teams competed in the Championship.
When it comes to goals, we constantly saw low-scoring games as the last seven h2h matches ended with fewer than three goals!
Bolton team overview
Bolton Wanderers are playing their fifth consecutive season in League One. Last year, they were in a good position to reach the Playoffs, but won just two points in the final six games and ended up eight - ten points away from the desired sixth place.
During the offseason, the club was active, adding seven players (+ three on loan). To be fair, some of the players left, but on paper, the team looks stronger this year. In the five friendly matches, they did great, winning all of them. However, in League One, they started the season with one win and one loss and are at 13th place at the moment.

Sheffield Wednesday team overview
Sheffield Wednesday secured promotion from League One in 2022/23 and had an underwhelming following season, barely escaping relegation. However, last year, they managed to consolidate and had a pretty stable year. Still, the Owls lost some players like Shea Charles, James Beadle, Josh Windass, Djeidi Gassama, Marvin Johnson, etc. They failed to add a good replacement and are considered the weakest team in the competition. They have by far the lowest transfer market value, and securing survival could be a really challenging task.
Right now, after losing the first game of the season vs Leicester 2:1, the bookies see Sheffield Wednesday as the primary candidate for relegation, offering odds of only 1.25-1.3 for them to get relegated!

Prediction
Bolton went under 2.5 goals in both of their games this season as they won 2:0 vs Plymouth and lost 2:0 vs Stockport County. They have been really good for this type of bet in the pre-season as well, considering four out of five matches ended with fewer than three goals. They have been playing low-scoring games for some time now. If we combine this season, the end of the last season, and the pre-season, they went under 2.5 goals in eight out of nine matches - 89%. Also, Bolton's solid defensive displays at home should be another plus for this bet.
Sheffield Wednesday lost the first game of the season 2:1 vs Leicester City but really struggled creating goalscoring chances. They only had 25% ball possession and 0.62 xG. While Bolton aren't on Leicester's level, we still believe the Owls will struggle to score away from home, especially considering they lost most of their key offensive players from last season.
Additionally, the last seven h2h games ended with fewer than three goals across the competitions. Considering the trend in the previous h2h games and all the above, we expect another game with fewer than three goals.
3 Reasons why we should see fewer than three goals
- Bolton went under 2.5 goals in both games this season
- Bolton went under 2.5 goals in eight out of the last nine matches in all competitions (89%)
- The previous seven h2h games ended with fewer than three goals
Main prediction Bolton Wanderers - Sheffield Wednesday
Under 2.5 goals
