Bolivia are ranked #80 on the FIFA World Ranking List and the worst-ranked team (tenth) in the South American region. They are also a team that very rarely secures a World Cup appearance, having last done so in 1994. This qualifying cycle, "the Green," started well, and it looked like the World Cup appearance was very close. However, after winning two points in the last six, they are in a difficult situation. Currently, they sit in 8th place with 14 points, four points behind 7th place, which leads to the World Cup Playoff.
Chile's results are on a heavy decline. They failed to reach the last two World Cups. In the previous World Cup Qualifiers, they finished as the last (tenth) team in the Group, and this year, they are on pace for another similar finish. After 15 rounds, they are 10th with 10 points - already eight away from the WC Playoffs and 11 points away from securing the WC. Therefore, this game is a must-win for them, as failure to do so would result in missing the third World Cup in a row.
Bolivia vs Chile pick: Under 2.5 goals
Bolivia are in terrible form, failing to win in the last six matches while scoring only three goals - a miserable 0.5 goals per game.
Chile are also in bad form, winning one point in the last three games against Argentina, Ecuador, and Paraguay. They also failed to score during that time, and it is hard to expect they will score away from home considering their performance away from home in these WC Qualifiers. In seven road games in these Qualifiers, they only scored once!
Even though Bolivia are the favorite by the bookies, we are reluctant to take the bet on them due to their poor form. Instead, considering both the team's form and Chile's inability to score goals away from home, an under 2.5 goals bet seems like the best option for this WC Qualifiers match.
