- Competition: UEFA Conference League - Qualifiers
- Date: Thursday, 14th, August 2025
- Kickoff: 19:00 UK / 20:00 CEST
- Venue: Tupras Stadium (Istanbul)
Eager to reaffirm their dominance, Besiktas will host Irish side St. Patrick's Athletic at Tupras Stadium for the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round this Thursday.
Last week’s first leg in Ireland saw Besiktas assert clear control, racing to a 4-0 lead by the 43rd minute, highlighted by Tammy Abraham’s impressive hat-trick. While St. Patrick’s pulled one back in the second half, it barely dents the outlook for the second leg, with the Turkish giants almost certain to advance to the final stage of qualification.

Last week marked the very first meeting between these two teams, but the Irish side will likely want to forget the heavy 4-1 defeat handed to them by Besiktas.
Besiktas team overview
There’s no denying the Black Eagles’ preseason has been disappointing, marked by back-to-back defeats and a tepid 1-1 draw against Admira, a shaky follow-up after they kicked off their preparations with a confident 2-0 victory over St. Polten.
A poor pre-season preparation clearly took its toll on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, who suffered a painful 6-2 aggregate defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in their first European test, effectively ending their hopes of competing in the Europa League this season.
Ahead of their Super Lig opener at home to Eyupspor this weekend, Besiktas aim to bolster their momentum with a strong showing in Europe once again, having emphatically brushed aside St. Patricks in Ireland just last week.
Rising star Mustafa Hekimoglu is still sidelined due to a hamstring injury he suffered during preseason, while Ernest Muci will need a medical evaluation after being subbed off in the 59th minute last week.

St. Patricks Athletic team overview
In the meantime, St. Patrick’s have navigated their first two hurdles in the UEFA third-tier tournament impressively, first cruising past Lithuania’s Hegelmann with a 3-0 aggregate win, then edging Nomme Kalju in a tense battle that went all the way to extra time.
The challenge posed by the formidable Besiktas proved too much for Dublin’s Red Army, and it’s hard to imagine them pulling off a miracle in Istanbul to overturn a three-goal deficit, especially considering their lackluster away form with just three wins from 11 road games.
Although they could have delayed their weekend match against Sligo Rovers to prepare thoroughly for their Turkish away game, Stephen Kenny’s team opted to compete and delivered an emphatic 3-0 win that lifted spirits ahead of the important encounter.
While midfielder Romal Palmer remains sidelined with a long-term hamstring injury, the attacking duo of Aidan Keena and Zach Elbouzedi have surprisingly not featured in recent games, making their appearance against Besiktas on Thursday seem unlikely.

Prediction
Even in front of their home crowd last week, St. Patrick's struggled offensively, managing just four shots overall (three on target), but they did find a consolation goal in what turned out to be a one-sided affair heavily dominated by Besiktas. In the second leg, we doubt the Irish side will find the back of the net, as they lack the quality forwards needed to threaten the Black Eagles’ defense again—despite that defense having conceded seven goals in their opening three matches this season. Overall, we expect the Turkish side to confidently dominate possession across the pitch and secure a comfortable clean-sheet victory.
Three Reasons we expect BTTS - NO
- Besiktas demolished St. Patrick's 4-1 during last week's first leg in Ireland.
- St. Patrick's have struggled to find the net away from home.
- Besiktas will be motivated to claim their first clean sheet of the new season.
