- Kickoff: 13:30 UK / 14:30 CEST

One of the leagues that is about to start this week is about to start is the Dutch Eredivisie. One of the Dutch giants and last season's vice champion, Ajax, will begin their campaign at home at Johan Cruijff Arena against newly promoted Telstar. These teams have totally different goals ahead of them. While the hosts look for their 31st league title, Telstar are only aiming to survive somehow.

Ajax
KNVB Beker
These teams met three times in their history - two in the KNVB Beker and one in a friendly match. Not surprisingly, Ajax won all three matches while going over 3.5 goals on two occasions. In those three games, we have seen a total of 15 goals - five per game!
Ajax team overview
Ajax had a disastrous 2023/24 season, finishing fifth, which is their worst result in the 21st century. However, they quickly bounced back and were in a position to secure another title five rounds before the end of the season, as they had a nine-point advantage up to that moment over PSV. Unfortunately, they crumbled, winning only five points, and they haven't even had a too challenging schedule.
During the offseason, we believe they got a bit better and are undoubtedly among the favorites to win the title. Still, the bookies see them as "only" the second-favorite for the title with the odds of around 3-3.25. The bookies trust PSV much more, offering odds around 1.7 on them winning the title.

Telstar team overview
Telstar are coming to this season after a historic previous one where they returned to the Eredivisie after a 47-year wait! The White Lions finished 7th in the regular phase and had to do it through the Playoffs, eliminating Den Haag, Den Bosch, and Willem II. Now, their goal in the Eredivisie is only to survive, but we doubt they will succeed after a pretty underwhelming offseason.
Over the pre-season, despite securing six wins in nine friendlies, we believe they have gotten slightly worse and that survival looks pretty challenging. The bookies do not trust them at all, offering odds around 1.7-1.8 for them to get relegated.

Prediction
Ajax are expected to dominate against Telstar and score a lot of goals. We firmly believe they are capable of doing so, especially after excellent performances in friendlies against solid competition. They scored a total of 19 goals in seven matches - 2.7 per game. They scored two goals against Monaco and PAOK and five against Celtic! Another positive thing for this bet is the fact that they haven't had a clean sheet in all seven friendlies. So we could see them allow a goal or two in this game as well.
Meanwhile, Telstar did pretty well in friendlies, winning six out of nine games. They also scored at least a goal in eight out of nine games - 89%. To be fair, they haven't faced teams of similar quality to Ajax, but it is still a solid record.
Considering all the above, we firmly believe that an over 3.5 goals bet is the safest option for the Eredivisie opener.
3 Reasons why we should see four or more goals
- Ajax scored two or more goals in five out of seven friendlies in the pre-season
- Telstar scored at least a goal in eight out of nine friendlies in the pre-season
- We saw four or more goals in two out of three h2h games - 67%
Main prediction -
Over 3.5 goals
