These teams haven't met for some time now. The last time they played was in 2021 in the EFL Cup when Oldham won after a penalty shootout following a goalless draw in regular time. Looking further back, we saw a total of six h2h matchups with each team winning three times.
Accrington team overview
Last year, Accrington barely secured survival in League Two, finishing in 21st place. Over the pre-season, we doubt they have gotten any better, at least on paper. In fact, we would argue that they are slightly worse compared to the last year. Still, they did pretty well in the pre-season result-wise against good competition, winning four points vs Rotherham, Wigan, Everton, and Blackburn. Those are all teams from higher tiers of English football.
Moreover, the Reds were solid in the league's opening game, drawing 1:1 against Gillingham. The Reds were close to winning all three points, but Devon Matthews' own goal eventually cost them points.

Oldham team overview
Oldham returned to League Two after spending three seasons in the National League. The Owls had to do it through the playoffs, where they have been spectacular, beating teams like Halifax, York City, and Southend. In the first game of the season, Oldham drew 0:0 with MK Dons away from home and looked pretty good.
During the pre-season, the club was very active, adding nine players on free transfers and one on a loan deal. Most of those players (six) already played last season in League Two or League One and should be good additions. Still, the Owls are one of the relegation contenders, and their only goal is survival.

Prediction
These teams went under 2.5 goals in their first games of the season, but more importantly, we haven't seen many chances created in those games. Accrington drew 1:1 with Gillingham, but it was a match with only three shots on goal and a combined xG of 0.84!
Meanwhile, Oldham's first match ended as a goalless draw with MK Dons, in a match without a single good chance. For 90 minutes, we saw just one shot on target and a combined xG of 0.53. We could see Oldham struggle to create chances in the pre-season as well, considering they failed to score in both of their friendlies (1:0 loss to Bradford City and 0:0 vs Dundee Utd). However, we can see they are doing a fine job defensively. So, a good defense and a poor offense make them an excellent team for this type of bet.
In the last h2h game, we saw a goalless draw. Considering all the above, we believe that an under 2.5 goals bet is the safest option for this FA Cup
3 Reasons why we should see fewer than three goals
- Both teams were under 2.5 goals in their opening games
- Oldham haven't scored in three games (two friendlies and one League Two match)
- The last h2h game ended as a goalless draw
Main prediction Accrington Stanley - Oldham
Under 2.5 goals
