San Antonio Spurs vs Golden State Warriors Prediction
An intriguing Western Conference matchup awaits, as two teams above .500 clash for the second time this season when San Antonio (13-10) host Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors (12-11). Can the Dubs regroup after a heartbreaking result? Will Spurs avenge their recent loss? Read my basketball preview, for the best betting odds ahead of this compelling H2H matchup.
San Antonio Spurs vs Golden State Warriors Preview
Through 23 games, Curry is averaging 29.4 points, 6.1 assists and 5.4 rebounds on 48.1 FG% - single-handedly carrying a weakened Warriors team towards a playoff push many didn't foresee after Klay Thompson's latest injury blow. In fairness, others pitch in too: Andrew Wiggins, Kelly Oubre Jr, Eric Paschall, rookie centre James Wiseman and All-Star PF Draymond Green.
However, Curry is their creator-in-chief and a relentless finisher who can turn a game instantly or keep them competitive when the chips are down.
He had an eyewatering 57 points on 19-of-31 shooting against Dallas, yet they could not make full use of his latest scoring explosion - just like at home against Boston last week.
Simply put, they must limit their turnovers and avoid getting players into foul trouble - Green had seven and five fouls in 37 minutes, despite recording 15 assists for the second successive game.
Kent Bazemore and reserve guard Mychal Mulder produced valuable minutes off the bench in their narrow defeat by the Mavericks, but Kelly Oubre Jr struggled with his shot (5-of-16). At the same time, Juan Toscano-Anderson remains streaky as he was thrust into extended responsibility last week.
Kevon Looney and Wiseman are sidelined, while Paschall (knee soreness) is listed as questionable. DeMar DeRozan had his fourth 30-point game of the season - three in the last five matches - leading their offence as he did against the Timberwolves last week.
No player had more assists (7), and only centre Jakob Poeltl (11) could boast more rebounds, albeit with 0-of-6 shooting from the field. Derrick White and Dejounte Murray need to be more efficient scorers, but can DeRozan maintain his consistency in the meantime too?
San Antonio Spurs vs Golden State Warriors Betting Tips
ESPN's BPI is leaning slightly more towards a road win here (57%) as Golden State hope to produce a similar scoreline after cruising to a 121-99 win in the previous meeting last month.
Curry predictably led all scorers with 26 points that night, but San Antonio shot just 12.1% from three (4-of-33) while the DeRozan-Aldridge pairing combined for 19 points on 5-of-16 shooting.
While Aldridge (hip flexor soreness) is sidelined, DeRozan currently averages 20.5 PPG on 49.5 FG% this season and will be looked upon, alongside Derrick White to get them going here.
It's a tough one to call, but I'm backing San Antonio to get it done, exacting sweet revenge.
