Sporting CP kick off their pre-season schedule on Wednesday evening with a friendly against Scottish Premiership side Celtic.
The hosts won the Primeira Liga for the second consecutive year and performed well in the Cup. They concluded the 2024–25 campaign with a victory over Benfica in the Taça de Portugal final, in which Viktor Gyökeres scored what could be his final goal for the club. Head coach Rui Borges will be hoping for a similar performance from his boys in the 2025-26, even without their top scorer of last season but they will need to demonstrate their intent from the outset on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Celtic won the Scottish Premiership for the fourth consecutive season last year. They also reached the Scottish Cup final, before losing 4:3 on penalties to Aberdeen. However, their preseason performances have been impressive so far. The Bhoys beat Queen's Park and Cork City in their first two friendlies, before losing the most recent 3:2 to Estrela Amadora last weekend.
