An entertaining and action-packed derby contest seems likely when two sides fighting for UCL qualification square-off on Sunday.
Nice return to home comforts after a disappointing pair of back-to-back road defeats at Lille (2:1) in Ligue 1 and Elfsborg (1:0) in the Europa League over the past week.
While Les Algions have struggled in European competitions, their domestic form has been impressive. Nice won six while losing only two of their last ten Ligue 1 games, leaving them 5th in the division, seven points behind second-placed Marseille.
Much stronger on their own patch, Franck Haise´s side are unbeaten in their last eight Ligue 1 games at the Allianz Riviera, with victories claimed in four of their five most recent home fixtures.
Frequently involved in high-scoring outcomes, Nice have seen BTTS and over 2.5 goals scored in nine of their last ten league fixtures, including each of their last five at the Allianz Riviera. Only one of 12 previous Ligue 1 games featuring Nice saw BTTS fail to land,
Marseille make the short trip to the Allianz Riviera now unbeaten in seven Ligue 1 matches after a 1:1 draw with Strasbourg last weekend. Roberto de Zerbi´s in-form side claimed five wins during that run, and now sit second in the division, but nine points behind predictable leaders, PSG.
Strong on their travels, Marseille have built up a superb away record in Ligue 1 this season. De Zerbi´s men won nine of their last 10 domestic league games away from home, including eight this season.
Like Nice, Les Phocéens are often involved in high-scoring and entertaining matches. Seven of their last ten away Ligue 1 games saw BTTS and a minimum of three goals scored. Marseille bagged at least two goals in nine of those games.
With Nice in fine form at home - and Marseille so impressive on the road, this match has all the makings of a potential thriller. Goals at both ends and a minimum of three goals scored should prove secure outcomes.
As such, BTTS is my top tip, while I also expect over 2.5 goals to land at the Allianz Riviera.
