Barcelona make their way into Tuesday's second-leg as clear favourites to progress to the quarter-finals after a 1:0 win in Portugal last week. Despite being reduced to ten men after just 22 minutes following the dismissal of Pau Curbrasi, the Blaugrana put in a dogged display with Raphina´s second-half strike proving the difference maker at the Estadio da Luz.
Sadly, the Catalans most recent La Liga fixture was postponed on Saturday following the sudden death of club doctor Carles Minarro Garcia. With the extra days to prepare for Tuesday´s return leg, Barcelona will be expected to make sure of their spot in the quarter-finals.
An impressive record in 2025 has seen Hansi Flick´s side win 13 while remaining unbeaten in their last 16 matches across all competitions this year. Eight of those victories saw at least three goals scored.
While a little inconsistent in home fixtures - Barca failed to win five of their last ten games at MontJuic - Flick´s men should prove too strong for a Benfica side that have now beaten twice this season following their thrilling 5:4 win in Portugal in the league phase.
Still, the Portuguese side have a strong record in away UCL matches in the last couple of years. Benfica won five of their last six continental road games since December 2023.
With Benfica knowing only a win will do, we should see a fairly open contest, and a high-scoring outcome. I expect Barcelona to have too much quality, and they should secure victory with a minimum of three goals scored.
