After both teams secured first place in their Groups in the League Cup, St. Johnstone and Aberdeen will face off in the first round of the Scottish Premiership. The game will take place at McDiarmid Park in Perth.
St. Johnstone are playing its 16th consecutive season in the Scottish top-flight division. However, in the last three seasons, they are constantly among the relegation contenders but successfully avoided the trip to the Championship. Last year, they were on a level with 11th-placed Ross County, which was in the relegation playout, but due to a better goal difference, they avoided the playout. This year, despite playing well for the most part in the League Cup, we expect the popular Saints to fight for survival once again.
In the previous decade, Aberdeen were mostly among the top four teams in Scotland, constantly securing Europe. However, last year, they struggled for most of the season and looked like a team that could even get into a relegation battle. But when they eventually ended up in the relegation Group, they dominated the opponents and finished 7th (1st in the Relegation Group). Before the start of the season, the bookies see Aberdeen as the 4th best team in Scotland, offering odds around 100 for them to win the title.
St. Johnstone vs Aberdeen pick: Both teams to score
Last year, St. Johnstone were one of the best teams in the league for this type of bet, at least on their turf, with 58% of games ending with both teams scoring. Only Motherwell had more "btts games" at home. So, despite having some offensive struggles, they were scoring pretty regularly at home. Offensively, they looked good in the League Cup, scoring two or more goals in all four matches. However, their defense is unable to keep a clean sheet, considering they had only one in the League Cup despite playing against pretty weak opponents. So, expecting an intact net against anyone in the league is unreal.
Aberdeen absolutely torched their League Cup opponents, scoring 15 goals in four games - 3.75 per game. Additionally, Aberdeen had really no problems scoring against the teams in the Relegation Group last season, scoring at least one goal in all five games.
Even though we consider Aberdeen to be a better team, considering all the above, we believe that both teams to score bet is the safest option for the Premiership game.

St. Johnstone team news
In the previous game against East Fife, midfielder Cameron MacPherson and defender Andre Raymond suffered injuries and had to leave the field in the second half. For now, there aren't official statements about the injuries' seriousness, and both players are listed as questionable.
Besides MacPherson and Raymond, forward Uche Ikpeazu will most likely also miss the game. The 29-year-old arrived from Port Vale over the Summer but still did not get the opportunity to play for the Saints.

Aberdeen team news
Seven players left the team over the Summer, but only two were part of the starting eleven: midfielder Connor Barron and goalkeeper Kelle Roos. Interestingly, to replace Roos, the club added Dimitar Mitov, who spent the previous year at St. Johnstone.
Besides Mitov, the club added midfielder Sivert Heltne Nilsen (Brann), striker Peter Ambrose (Ujpest) and Gavin Molloy (Shellbourne), spending around 720.000 euros on their transfers.
