Port Vale came into the 2024/25 season as one of the teams relegated from League One and surely one of the strongest teams in the fourth level of English football. After 16 rounds, the team from Vale Park is the best in the division with five points more than the second-best Crewe. However, Port Vale slowed in form lately, with only two wins in the last four matches in all competitions. In the previous game, they won 1-0 on the road against Morecambe. The guests were significantly better, so their victory was well-deserved.
Crewe are another team aiming for promotion. Before the season started, most pundits saw them as a playoff team, but they certainly can hope for more after a great start. Crewe lost only one of the last nine matches, so they will travel to Vale Park with a lot of confidence. In the previous game, Crewe won 2-0 at home against Notts Co. The guests had ball possession and a number of shots on their side, but the home side took most of their chances and secured another big victory.
Port Vale vs Crewe pick: Under 2.5 goals
Port Vale scored only two goals in the last three matches. On the other hand, there were two or fewer goals in eight of the previous Crewe games. We should expect another low-scoring game on Monday night at Vale Park.

Port Vale team news
After a win against Morecambe, Port Vale's head coach, Darren Moore, was very satisfied. He said, "On paper, the fixture can look easy, but that's very different from playing in it. It was really difficult and has probably been one of the more difficult games of the season because they are quite a compact team. They play the percentage game really well, but they can also mix it up and play some football if you allow them. So, as the game wore on like that, we were trying everything in our power to try to find that all-important touch. It's great to see it come from a set play with Chizzy at the far post."

Crewe team news
Crewe's head coach, Lee Bell, admitted they wanted to play on the counter-attack against Notts Co. He said, "Notts always try and play football; they're a really good team although they were missing one or two players today. They have high possession, and we wanted to counter that, and our first goal was a good counter-attack."
Crewe's Christopher Long got a red card late in the match, so he will serve suspension in the upcoming tie against Vale Park.
