  • Competition: Championship
  • Date: Wednesday, 27th November, 2024
  • Kickoff: 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
  • Venue: Elland Road (Leeds)

On Wednesday evening, two teams that recently spent time in the Premier League will face off in the 17th round of the Championship at Elland Road in Leeds.

Leeds are trying to return to the Premier League after their relegation in 2022/23. Last year, they finished third, failing to secure direct promotion, and eventually lost in the Playoff Finals as well. This year, the Whites are doing well and are at the top of the Championship league's table with 32 points in 16 rounds. Still, they are on a level with two other teams (Sunderland and Sheffield United), so they must keep winning games to stay where they are.

Luton were relegated from the Premier League last year, and whenever a team drops from the PL to the Championship, they are instantly considered a candidate for a return. Unfortunately, that is not the case, as the Hatters look more like a relegation candidate, considering they are only three points away from the danger zone. They won just 18 points in 16 rounds, but there are some signs of improvement as they won two out of the last three. Still, the Hatters have struggled away from home, and in order to have some chance of reaching the Playoffs, they need to start winning points away from home.

Leeds vs Luton pick: Leeds to win and cover the -1 AH spread

Leeds lost just against Millwall (1:0) in the last 11 games. But that was away from home, where Leeds dominated the game and deserved at least one, if not all, three points. At home, Leeds absolutely crushed their opponents, winning five in a row while winning by two or more goals on four occasions. During that stretch, they even won against Sheffield United (2:0), which are considered as one of the leading candidates for promotion.

Luton managed to win two out of the last three games, but both of those games were at home. On the road, the Hatters are terrible, losing four in a row with 13 conceded goals - 2.6 per game. So, it is unreal to expect a good performance against such a strong home team.

Considering what we have seen from these teams this season, Leeds's fantastic home record, and Luton's terrible performances on the road, we believe that the Whites should secure another comfortable win at Elland Road.

Leeds team news

Junior Fripo will remain sidelined for the Luton game as he received a three-game ban due to violent behavior after the Millwall game. The referees missed it, but FA eventually punished him as it was caught on video.

The team should have no new injuries, but Ethan Ampadu, Joe Gelhardt and Ilia Gruev, who missed the previous games, should remain sidelined. Meanwhile, Largie Ramazani recovered from his ankle injury and was on the bench during the last game.

Luton team news

After a 1:0 win over Hull City, coach Rob Edwards spoke to the media. He was happy with a win, saying they approached the game well and showed character. However, the coach also said they have to be better at stopping crosses because it is something they keep struggling with.

In the previous game against Hull, three players suffered injuries and had to leave the field. While Shandon Baptiste and Tom Krauss seem to sustain only minor injuries and that they will be ready, Reece Burke will most likely be sidelined. Additionally, Tom Lockyer and Reuell Walters will remain sidelined with their long-term injuries. At the same time, Alfie Doughty is questionable with a knock he sustained two games ago.
