  • Competition: England - Championship
  • Date: Tuesday, 4th, February 2025
  • Kickoff: 19:45 UK / 20:45 CEST
  • Venue: Turf Moor (Burnley)

Burnley are desperate to get their title chase back on track when they host struggling Oxford United at Turf Moor in Tuesday’s Championship round 31 clash.

Burnley continue to maintain their reputation as "draw specialists," as they were once again involved in a dull affair during their visit to Portsmouth over the weekend, where the stalemate remained unbroken and they registered their 13th draw in 30 rounds. That draw left the Clarets in third with 58 points in their pockets but fortunately, they are still in touch for the Championship title, as they are only five points behind league leaders Leeds United, although they will need to ramp up their winning gorm going forward.

Oxford United’s return to the Championship after a decade and a half is unfolding in a positive manner, as they are delivering solid performances and, by all indications, have a realistic chance of securing their place in England’s second-tier competition. However, much of the credit for establishing a comfortable gap between themselves and the drop zone goest to their impressive upturn in form since the start of 2025, where they have not tasted loss in any of their seven second-tier fixtures, notching up three wins and four draws in that stretch.

Burnley vs Oxford United Betting Tips : UNDER 2.5

Both teams can proudly claim to be among the few Championship sides that have yet to be beaten since the start of the new calendar year, and with neither wanting to spoil their streaks, a cautious and subdued contest is expected, with little action to speak of. This season, Burnley's defense has proven to be the toughest to break down, as evidenced by the fact that they have still only conceded a single-digit number of goals (9) across 30 gameweeks so far. It should also be highlighted that the Clarets have had difficulty finding the final touch, and this, combined with their rock-solid defense, has led to five of their seven Championship matches ending in a goalless draw. What’s interesting is that the reverse encounter between Burnley and Oxford also ended without a winner in a dull, scoreless contest, and we believe nothing will change this time either, as the Yellows have significantly strengthened their defensive wall since the start of the new calendar year, meaning we foresee a lone strike settling this battle.

Burnley team news

The injury list remains a problem for Burnley, who will have to cope without Aaron Ramsey, Mike Tresor, and the wide duo of Nathan Redmond and Enock Agyei.

Head coach Scott Parker made just two changes during his team’s goalless draw with Portsmouth over the weekend, and one of them, Hannibal Mejbri, could now earn a spot in the starting lineup.

Oxford United team news

The absence of Ben Nelson, Owen Dale, Max Woltman, and skipper Elliott Moore will be a setback for Oxford United, but the good news is that their comebacks are on the horizon.

Having avoided injuries in their hard-fought 1-1 draw with Bristol City and staying undefeated this year, head coach Gary Rowett might opt to keep faith in his regular starting lineup.
