A place in the third qualifying round of the Champions League will be at stake when Dinamo Minsk and Ludgorets go head to head on Wednesday in Hungary.

Dinamo Minsk have become accustomed to going out at the second qualifying round of European competitions in recent years. The Hungarians failed to progress beyond the second qualifying round in each of their last four European appearances and that run is likely to be extended this season. Fortunately for head coach Vadim Skripchenko, they only lost the first leg by two goals.

Ludogorets last exited a European competition in the second qualifying round in 2020-21 and that was in the Champions League. The visitors reached the Europa League group stage the same year and have repeated the feat in each of the last two seasons, featuring in the Conference League and Europa League Group stages.

A lack of goals has been the big headline in recent matches for Dinamo Minsk. Prior to the 2-0 defeat in the first leg, the hosts had kept a clean sheet in four consecutive matches. None of those encounters produced more than two goals. Their recent home games on European soil were also less entertaining, with only one of the last five matches producing more than two goals.

Ludogorets have been very good defensively in recent weeks. Indeed, they didn't concede more than one goal in any of their last eight matches. Each of the last three ended with less than two goals scored and I expect a similar result in Hungary on Monday, when these two teams meet for only the second time in history.
