Charlotte Hornets vs Golden State Warriors Prediction

Orlando Magic guard Michael Carter-Williams struggled across the floor (8 pts on 2-of-13 shooting, five turnovers, four fouls), but the veteran PG produced the game's most important play to thwart Stephen Curry from tying the game with a three-pointer late on as they completed a rallying fourth-quarter comeback to stun the Golden State Warriors 124-120 overnight.

How will the Warriors fare against a Charlotte Hornets (13-15) team making their first appearance since last Sunday night after COVID-19 protocols postponed multiple scheduled matches? Read my basketball preview for the best betting odds ahead of this compelling H2H matchup.

Charlotte Hornets vs Golden State Warriors Preview

Orlando's All-Star centre Nikola Vucevic led as you'd expect with an impressive stat line: 30 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists in 39 minutes - recording his first triple-double of the season.

SG Evan Fournier had 28 points, six assists and four rebounds alongside a team-high five threes, while fellow guard Terrence Ross produced 24 points off the bench.

PF duo Chuma Okeke and Al-Farouq Aminu recorded productive outings from the bench to mask an ineffective scoring night for others as they overcame a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit to sting Steve Kerr's men.

Orlando was trailing 106-93 with 8:50 to play, though big plays from Okeke and Vucevic proved decisive in their comeback win.

Curry hit successive threes in the final minute before Vucevic's clutch free throws presented the hosts with a narrow lead to protect. Off-balance but determined, Curry was guarded well by Vucevic and Carter-Williams as he launched a 27-footer with five seconds left to tie the game.

"We were able to stay together because it's difficult to have a big lead, then have it disappear in like a three-minute span just from our mistakes.

We were just able to fight back, stuck together and that's something we struggled to do in the past - shows growth."

Curry now has 12 successive games with at least 25 points, despite going an inefficient 11-of-29 from the field with 6-of-16 threes.

He described it as an "emotional roller coaster" of a night, which rather typifies their campaign to date. He'll be hoping they can remain composed throughout against a Hornets side who have proven exciting to watch, powered by rookie guard LaMelo Ball.

The 19-year-old started in their 122-110 home defeat by San Antonio last weekend and was two assists away from another triple-double (17 pts, 12 rebs, eight ast).

Devonte' Graham (knee), Gordon Hayward (back), Caleb Martin and Cody Martin (COVID-19 protocols) remain sidelined, though second-year PF PJ Washington is expected to return to the starting line-up after missing their last two games as part of the aforementioned protocols.

The notable absences mean additional focus on Ball, his backcourt partner Terry Rozier and SG Malik Monk to enjoy efficient shooting nights. They combined for 56 points between the latter two, 11 rebounds and six assists against the Spurs. Is that sustainable?

Charlotte Hornets vs Golden State Warriors Betting Tips

ESPN's BPI is comfortable in backing Golden State to prevail in the early hours (62.7%), albeit less so than against Orlando after their late offensive collapse.

It's the second leg of their back-to-back schedule and you'd assume they learn from their issues executing late-game plays vs an exciting yet inconsistent Hornets team without key players too.

If Curry can shoot at a more efficient clip than he has in recent games, there's no reason why the Warriors shouldn't outscore their hosts here - not least with PF Draymond Green (ankle) having made his return overnight and adding a defensive edge they've often lacked this term.
