- Competition: MLS
- Date: Thursday, 26th June, 2025
- Kickoff: 03:30 UK / 04:30 CEST
- Venue: BC Place (Vancouver, BC)
On the night between Wednesday and Thursday, two top teams in the Western Conference, Vancouver Whitecaps and San Diego, will face off against each other at BC Place in Vancouver.
Vancouver Whitecaps, a reigning Canadian champ, are playing one of the best seasons in Major League Soccer. A team that mostly finished their seasons around the middle of the table are sitting at the top of the Western Conference with 35 points in 17 rounds. Currently, they are two points behind second-placed San Diego despite having played one game fewer. Looking at both conferences, the Whitecaps have the best points-per-game average of 2.06. Additionally, as Canadian champions, they qualified for the CONCACAF Champions Cup and performed exceptionally well, losing in the finals to Cruz Azul approximately 20 days ago.
San Diego are a new name in USA football. They were founded in 2023, and this year is their debut season in the MLS. We can safely say they exceeded expectations, considering they are in second place in the Western Conference. However, in order to stay in the upper half of the league's table, they will have to start winning more points away from home because they are significantly worse away from home than at home. They average around 0.6 ppg fewer on the road.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs San Diego pick: Both teams to score
The Vancouver Whitecaps have been inconsistent in recent matches, and it is difficult to predict how they will perform. However, most of their poor games were away from home. At home, they were undefeated in the last eight matches and have scored at least a goal in seven of those eight games. Additionally, they have scored at least once in 12 of the previous 13 home games across the competition.
San Diego are in excellent form, having won back-to-back games against Austin and Minnesota United and have scored six goals. As we mentioned, their performances away from home weren't really great throughout the season. However, they are scoring regularly regardless of the results. In eight games away from home, they scored a total of 14 goals - 1.75 per game. So, we are convinced they can score against The Vancouver Whitecaps as well.
Considering all the above, both teams to score bet seems like the best option for this MLS tie.
Vancouver Whitecaps team news
Midfielder Ali Ahmed suffered an injury while playing for his national team (Canada) just a few days ago and will most likely be out for the upcoming period. However, he is on international duty anyway and will not be available.
Additionally, Emmanuel Sabbi, Damir Kreilach, Ryan Gauld, and Sam Adekugbe, who missed the previous games with injuries, should remain sidelined.
