RB Salzburg will be looking to build on their strong start to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup when they face Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal in Washington this weekend.
The Austrians narrowly missed out on winning the Bundesliga in each of the last two campaigns, finishing second in both and lost both titles by only two points. Having been drawn alongside Real Madrid and Al Hilal in the Club World Cup group stage, Thomas Letsch’s team were tipped as underdogs but they have got off to a flying start. The Red Bulls are currently top of the group after their 2:1 win over Pachuca in Cincinnati on Wednesday night.
Al Hilal also finished as runners-up in their domestic competition last season. The Saudis finished the season strongly, winning four of their final five matches and scored averagely three goals per game in that spell. We saw evidence of this form against Real Madrid — especially in the first half — during their FIFA Club World Cup opener, though the match ended in a draw.
