Just over a week before the prestigious European Championship tournament in Germany, Portugal will host the Republic of Ireland in a final preparation match for the Navigators.
Portugal were the best team in the European Championship qualifiers, picking up 30 out of a possible 30 points and scoring the most goals in the competition (36). Roberto Martínez's side took this form into this month's friendlies, which they began with a 4-2 win over Finland. With confidence high going into last weekend's match against Croatia, the Navigators were hoping to replicate that performance but were surprised by goals from Luka Modric and Ante Budimir.
The Republic of Ireland meanwhile have not managed to qualify for the European Championship since 2016. The visitors ended their European Championship qualifying campaign with a defeat against the Netherlands and have not impressed since. John O'Shea's side enter this game with just one win from their last four outings and were unable to score in three of those encounters.
Betting Tips Portugal vs Ireland: Portugal to win & Over 2.5 goals
Portugal have made hardly any mistakes in recent games, both defensively and offensively. A Seleção struck at least twice in seven of their last nine games, going without conceding on four occasions. However, none of those clean sheets came in the last four games. Portugal have conceded two goals in each of their last four games and this streak may well continue on Tuesday.
The last time these two nations met in a friendly encounter was around ten years ago. The Portuguese ran out 5-1 winners and with Ireland’s form not good, a similar result could be seen on Tuesday.
