Second and sixth place, respectively, in the FIFA World football rankings go head to head in Hamburg on Friday night as Portugal and France meet in the EURO 2024 Quarter finals.

Portugal had a 100% qualification for the Euros and also kicked off the tournament just the way they would have liked. The Navigators beat Czechia and Türkiye, 2-1 and 3-0 respectively, on Matchday 1 and 2 of the group stage, but they have not been able to maintain that form. Roberto Martínez’s side suffered a shocked loss to Georgia on the final day of the Group stages, and also struggled to break down Slovenia in the round of 16 last time out.

France have not been entertaining to watch as things were in qualifying. Les Bleus are in the quarterfinals and still unbeaten but they have not scored more than any of their games so far. Didier Deschamps’ side needed an own goal to knockout Belgium last time out, and they are expected to have another challenging game this week in Hamburg.

Portugal vs France Betting Tips: Under 2.5 goals

Scoring goals has been a problem for both Portugal and France lately. A Seleção failed to hit the back of the net in each of their last two encounters, and none of those matches produced more than two goals.

France meanwhile have scored only three times in their four games played so far at the Euros. Two of those were own-goals, while the other was a penalty converted by Kylian Mbappé against Poland.

Most of the recent meetings between Portugal and France weren’t also entertaining. Four of the last five ended with under one goal, and I expect a similar scoreline this week.
