Manchester City are coming off a terrible season, at least by their standards. For the first time since the 2016/17 season, the Citizens ended the season without a single trophy. A combination of several factors ultimately led to their failure: injuries to key players, a decline in defensive performance, and squad fatigue due to the number of games played. Still, in the latter part of the season, they consolidated and finished the season well, at least securing a Champions League spot after finishing third in the Premier League. Meanwhile, in this FIFA Club World Cup, the Citizens opened the competition with a 2:0 over Wydad Casablanca.
Al Ain earned their spot in the FIFA Club World Cup by winning the 2023/24 AFC Champions League. This season, they weren't on an expected level across the competitions. In the domestic league, they finished 5th, four points behind the AFC Champions League 2 spot. And in the AFC Champions League, they were simply atrocious, finishing as the last-placed team (12th) in the group without a win in eight rounds.
Manchester City vs Al Ain pick: Manchester City to win and cover the -2 AH spread
Manchester City opened the tournament with an easy 2:0 win over Wydad in a match where they dominated from the very start of the game. Additionally, although Manchester City did not meet expectations throughout the season, they performed well in the latter part of the season, winning nine of their last 12 games - a 75% win rate.
Al Ain had a miserable start in the FIFA Club WC, losing 5:0 to Juventus. It was evident from the first minute that Al Ain will have massive problems defensively, and we firmly believe they will have an even bigger problem against Manchester City. This year, Al Ain were horrible, and they objectively do not belong in this competition. In the AFC CL, they lost six out of eight games (75%) against much worse competition than they will face in this tournament.
The difference in quality is simply too great, and considering all the above, anything but a big win for the Citizens would be a massive surprise.
Manchester City team news
In the previous game against Wydad, right full-back Rico Lewis received a straight red card and will be suspended for the upcoming game.
After a 2:0 win over Wydad, coach Pep Guardiola spoke to the media. He said they deservedly won the match and could have scored even more goals. The coach was also asked if their goal was to win the competition or to prepare for the next season, and he said it is a mix of the two. Pep added that these matches are crucial for players like Rodri, who has been out for nine months and desperately needs minutes.

Al Ain team news
After a 5:0 win against Juventus, coach Vladimir Ivic spoke to the media. He said Juventus was a better team and deserved to win. However, he said they respected the opponent too much, which gave the opposing team a lot of confidence. The Serbian coach also said they made some defensive mistakes, which could have been easily avoided.
