Round 17 of the Segunda Division will come to a close with a clash between two out-of-form teams, as Eibar takes on rock-bottom Cartagena at the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua on Monday.

Despite finishing in the top five in each of the last three Segunda Division campaigns, all of Eibar's promotion attempts through the playoffs have fallen short, and it seems their search for a return to Spain's top flight will continue for some time. As for the visitors from Cartagena, they are in serious danger of losing their second-division status after five years, as their showings so far have been nothing short of discouraging, raising doubts about their ability to escape the troubled waters that are leading them toward relegation. In last week's Round 16, the Zebras were condemned to their 12th defeat of the season, as they were beaten 1-2 at home by promotion-chasing Almeria, with their pitiful total of just 10 points keeping them firmly at the bottom of the table.
