In the last decade, Belgium have been one of the favorites to lift the trophy at every major tournament, but third place in the World Cup in Germany in 2018 remained their biggest success in the 21st century. In the last two EUROs, Belgium reached the quarterfinals, where they lost against Wales and Italy.

Belgium may not be as strong as in previous years, but they should still have a solid chance to reach another quarterfinal. Belgium comes into the tournament in a spectacular run of 15 games without defeat. In June, they won 2-0 and 3-0 against Montenegro and Luxembourg in two friendly matches.

Slovakia have one EURO title in history (from 1976 as Czechoslovakia). Since independence, they appeared in three major tournaments but without much success. Their primary goal at the upcoming EURO will be to qualify for the knockout phase.

Slovakia is also in a good run, having lost only one of the last seven matches in all competitions. In June, they won two times, 4-0 (against San Marino and Wales). Victory against Wales, especially, will give Francesco Calzona's team a lot of confidence ahead of the upcoming tournament.

Belgium vs Slovakia pick: Belgium to win and cover AH -1 spread

Slovakia played solid lately, but they shouldn't be able to compete with by far the best team in this group, Belgium. We should expect Belgium to win and cover AH -1 spread in this match.

Belgium team news

Belgium have problems with the squad ahead of the EURO. Defenders Jan Vertonghen and Arthur Theate are injured, and although they increased their workload, it is still hard to know if they will be ready for the game against Slovakia. Also, Axel Witsel was dropped off training on Friday with an unspecified injury. In the previous friendly match, Thomas Meunier had to go out due to an injury, so he is ruled out for Monday too. On the other hand, there are reports that Youri Tielemans should be ready for the EURO opener.

Slovakia team news

Slovakia doesn't have too much quality in the squad. However, they are usually well-organized. Probably the best players in the squad are Milan Skriniar (PSG), Stanislav Lobotka (Napoli), and David Hancko (Feyenoord). Slovakia doesn't have any injury concerns right now, but out of these top three players, they don't have any other star in the squad.
