Following a seven-goal thriller in Switzerland, Fenerbahce again lock-horns at the Ülker Stadyumu Fenerbahçe with a place in the next round of UCL qualification up for grabs.

A dramatic and hugely enjoyable first-leg saw last season´s Turkish Super lig runners-up Fenerbahce claim a thrilling 4:3 win at the Stockhorn Arena (Thun). A hat-trick from Bosnian veteran Edin Dzeko secured a vital victory in Jose Mourinho´s first match in the Fener hotseat.

Now returning to Istanbul, Mourinho´s men will be expected to finish the job with Fenerbahce in possession of a superb recent home record. The Turks claimed victory in ten of their last 13 unbeaten matches in Istanbul. The Sarı Kanaryalar saw an average of 3.9 goals scored in those games. 

Making their return to UCL qualifiers for the first-time since 2022, and only the second time since 2018, Mourinho´s side will be expected to see-off a Lugano side that are competing in Europe's premier competitions for the first time since 2001. 

Lugano have an excellent recent record in domestic away fixtures, scoring nine wins with only two defeats from their last 13 on the road in Switzerland. However, a trip to Istanbul represents a much stiffer assignment for Mattia Croci-Torti´s side. 

While the Bianconeri are unlikely to go down without a fight, I expect Fenerbahce to secure their place in the next round with a high-scoring home win. A minimum of three goals were scored in the hosts last 16 home victories, and a similar outcome has to be expected on Tuesday.
