  • Kickoff: 15:01 UK / 16:01 CEST
  • Venue: Wembley Stadium (London)

After both teams won their semi-final duels, AFC Wimbledon and Walsall will face off in the League Two Playoffs Finals on a neutral pitch at Wembley Stadium in London.

AFC Wimbledon had two rough seasons after being relegated from League One in 2021/22, finishing 21st and 10th. This year, the popular Dons even had a good situation in securing instant promotion and avoiding playing in the playoffs. Unfortunately, after winning just one in the last five matches in the regular season, they had to settle for a playoff spot. In the semi-finals, they won against Notts Co 2:0 on aggregate, but it was a much closer duel than the final result represents.

Walsall have finally reached the playoffs after five years of mid-table finishes. After around two-thirds of the season, it seemed it was almost impossible for them to miss a direct promotion. However, similarly to AFC Wimbledon, they had a poor end of the season, winning once in the last 13 games and eventually missed on direct promotion by one point! Heading into the final, Walsall are slight underdogs, with odds around 2.00–2.05 to go up.

AFC Wimbledon vs Walsall pick: Under 2.5 goals

AFC Wimbledon have been one of the best teams in the league for this bet, with 67% of their League Two games ending with fewer than three goals. For a long time now, they haven't been too great offensively, scoring one or zero goals in the last ten matches.

Walsall have been really good for this bet lately, with four of the last five matches finishing under 2.5 goals. The only time they went over this line was in the previous game against Chesterfield (2:1), but we saw two goals in the stoppage time, and this game could also easily end with fewer than three goals.

Both teams have played super defensively in the semi-finals. AFC Wimbledon had just 40% and 27% ball possession, while Walsall had only 24 and 26% ball possession.

In the regular season, both h2h games finished with fewer than three goals. Now, with promotion on the line, we expect a slow, cautious match from both sides and an under 2.5 goals bet should be the safest option.

Walsall team news

After serving a three-game suspension, right full-back/wing-back Connor Barrett will be available. The 23-year-old has been a key part of Walsall's defense, and we expect him to be back in the starting lineup. He started in 85% of their League Two games and leads the team in assists with nine.

The team should have no new injuries, but Ellis Harrison, Priestley Farquharson, and Jack Earing, who missed the previous games with injuries, should remain sidelined.
