After six straight appearances in EURO, Sweden failed to qualify for the upcoming one. They finished 3rd in Group F with Belgium, Austria, Azerbaijan, and Estonia. The Group wasn't too hard, yet they finished ten away from first-placed Belgium and nine away from second-placed Austria. If we look further back, we can see that Sweden was demoted from UEFA Nations League B and also failed to qualify for the WC in Qatar before that. So, it is fair to say their results are in decline.

On the other hand, Serbia managed to qualify for EURO, won their UEFA Nations League B, and appeared in the previous World Cup in Qatar. Still, the impression is that this team has major flaws to be among the teams battling for the titles in big competitions. Right now, the bookies offer odds around 80 for the Eagles to win the EURO title. Many football pundits agree that a big part of the problem is coach Aleksandar Stojkovic, who forces different tactics for which he doesn't have personnel.

Sweden vs Serbia pick: Over 2.5 goals

In recent matches, Sweden constantly played high-scoring games as they were over 2.5 goals in four of the last six matches. They are scoring regularly even agaisnt much better defenses than Serbia's. Looking at their offensive talent, that shouldn't surprise us and scoring at least once against Serbia shouldn't be a problem.

Serbia also have a potent offense capable of scoring once or twice against anyone but are unable to keep a clean sheet. They had only one clean sheet in the last 11 games, and they faced teams like Lithuania, Bulgaria, Jordan, Montenegro, etc. Because of a good offense and poor defense, the Eagles were over 2.5 goals in seven of the last nine matches.

These teams met in the UEFA Nations League for about a year and a half, and Serbia dominated, winning 4:1. Considering all the above, we expect another high-scoring game, most likely with both teams scoring.

Serbia team news

In the last game, Serbia played in a 4-2-3-1 formation, but coach Stojkovic hinted he would switch to playing three at the back against Sweden. He has big problems at the right full-back position and, because of it, tends to play a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation with Andrija Zivkovic on the right flank. However, he is too offensive-orientated, which often poses a defensive problem.

Nemanja Maksimovic suffered a head blow in the previous game vs Austria and left the field after 43 minutes. So, we expect him to miss the match against Sweden.

Also, in the last game, Dusan Vlahovic got the opportunity to start in the first eleven as a striker and did a terrible job. So, we expect Aleksandar Mitrovic back in the starting lineup.
