An entertaining Championship contest can be expected at St. Mary's Stadium when Southampton take on Middlesbrough on Friday.

Placed fourth in the Championship, Southampton will be looking for a third successive win in March when they take on an improving Middlesbrough side on Easter Friday. 

After losing three successive games in February, the Saints came storming back with high-scoring victories against Birmingham City (4:3) and Sunderland (4:2) before the international break. 

High-scoring outcomes have been a regular theme in Southampton matches in recent months. Russel Martin´s side have seen over 2.5 goals scored in eight of their last nine matches since the start of February. BTTS and over 2.5 goals occurred in seven of their last nine league outings while an average of 4.3 goals have been scored in their last ten league contests.

At St. Mary's, the Saints have seen at least three goals netted in their last eight home fixtures and another high-scoring outcome could be on the cards on Friday. 

Visiting Middlesbrough arrive on the south coast in great form with ten points picked up from their last four unbeaten league fixtures. Up to tenth in the division, Michael Carrick ́s side find themselves seven points short of the playoff zone with only eight games remaining to be played in the regular season. 

Like Southampton, the visitors have also seen a high proportion of recent matches deliver in the goal markets. Carrick´s boys have seen over 2.5 goals in 14 of their last 18 away matches since November. 

Previous encounters between these sides also saw plenty of goal action. Seven of eight previous meetings over the past twenty years saw at least three goals scored including Middlesbrough´s 2:1 win at the Riverside earlier this season. 

Considering both teams decent form, and the Saints recent run of high-scoring home fixtures, I´m confidently backing over 2.5 goals scored at St. Mary's Stadium.
