- Competition: Champions League Qualifiers, 1st Round, 1st Leg
- Date: Wednesday, 10th July, 2024
- Kickoff: 18:00 UK / 19:00 CEST
- Venue: Tehelné pole (Bratislava)
On Wednesday, Slovakian champion Slovan Bratislava will welcome North Macedonian champion Struga in the first round of the Champions League Qualifiers. The first leg will take place at Tehelné pole in Bratislava.
Slovan Bratislava are by far the best team in Slovakia in recent years, winning six consecutive titles. In the last two years, even though they did not make it to the Champions League group phase, they managed to reach the Conference League group phase and even the knockout phase both times. Now, the bookies see them as a big favorite to go past the North Madedonian champs, offering odds of around 1.2 for them to secure the second round.
Struga are a new name in North Macedonian football, founded just nine years ago. But they quickly became a dominant force in the country and have won back-to-back league titles. In Europe, they haven't had too much success, failing to reach the group phase in their first two European journeys.
Slovan Bratislava vs Struga pick: Under 2.5 goals
Even though Slovan is a favorite to win the upcoming game, they might miss a few key players who were on international duty. That will surely be a big handicap, so we are reluctant to bet on them to win and cover the -1/-1.5 AH spread. In the preparation period for the CL Qualifiers, Slovan have had mixed results. But more importantly for our bet, three of four games finished with fewer than three goals.
Struga, like most Balkan teams, heavily relies on the home pitch. In five European games, they won just once and have scored six goals in those five matches. They faced much weaker opponents in those matches, so even scoring a goal against Slovan might be challenging. Also, like Slovan, in preparation period, they were under 2.5 goals in three of four games.
Considering all the above, an under 2.5 goals bet should be the best option for this tie.
Slovan Bratislava team news
Juraj Kucka, David Strelec (Slovakia), and Guram Kashia (Georgia) were in EURO with their national team and finished the competition about ten days ago. So, it is a big question of whether they are fit enough to play or might need some time off.
Also, the team's best right full-back, Cesar Blackman, will most likely miss the upcoming game. He was with Panama's national football team in Copa America and will likely not return on time for the CL Qualifiers.
