Even though UEFA expanded the number of teams participating in EURO, that wasn't enough for the Republic of Ireland to secure an appearance after this one and the last qualifying cycle. The popular Boys in Green are evidently struggling in recent years. They finished Group B with France, Netherlands, Greece, and Gibraltar in 4th place with only six points, which they won against one of the weakest teams in the world - Gibraltar. Before the EURO Qualifiers, they had a poor run in the UEFA Nations League B, where they barely survived after finishing 3rd and securing survival by a win in the last round against Armenia.

On the other hand, Hungary are on the rise. They did great in the UEFA Nations League A in an extremely tough group with Italy, Germany, and England. They finished second, with only one point behind the top spot! In the EURO Qualifiers, the Hungarians were excellent once again, securing a top spot without losing a single match. Right now, the bookmakers have them as the 14th-favorite to win the EURO title, with odds around 80.

Republic of Ireland vs Hungary pick: Hungary to (AH 0) win

The Republic of Ireland lost six of eight games in the EURO Qualifiers, winning only games against poor Gibraltar. After that, they continued with poor performances, failing to win in the next three friendly games against Switzerland, Belgium, and New Zealand. If we exclude the two games vs Gibraltar, they only scored four goals in the last 11 games - 0.36 per game.

Hungary are playing excellent football. They are undefeated in the last 14 and have won the previous three. On the road, Hungary have had some excellent wins recently, winning against England (4:0), Germany (1:0), and Serbia (2:1).

Considering what we have seen from these teams in recent years, we strongly believe Hungary are a better team and should secure at least a draw in this game away from home in Dublin.

Republic of Ireland team news

Chiedozie Ogbene, Evan Ferguson, Nathan Collins, Gavin Bazunu, and John Egan are not called for the upcoming friendlies against Hungary and Portugal. We believe that the absences of the first two are a huge problem for the Boys in Green because they are having massive problems scoring even with their best squad available.

Because of those absences, coach O'Shea called Leicester's striker Thomas Cannon. The 21-year-old hasn't had too great of a season in the Championship, scoring two goals and assisting one in 13 appearances. Still, coach O'Shea spoke very highly about him, hinting that he could become a valuable part of the team soon.

Hungary team news

The team should have almost no injuries. The only players to miss the upcoming games and Euro are Zsolt Kalar, Attila Fiola, and Peter Szappanos, but none of them are too important for the team.

We expect coach Marco Rossi to use these friendlies to try out their best squad, and we expect a pretty offensive 3-4-3 formation against the Republic of Ireland.
