  • Competition: Champions League, 1/8 Finals, first leg
  • Date: Tuesday, 13th February 2024
  • Kickoff: 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
  • Venue: Red Bull Arena (Leipzig)

On Tuesday evening, RB Leipzig will welcome Real Madrid at Red Bull Arena in Leipzig in the first leg game of the Champions League 1/8 Finals.

RB Leipzig quickly became one of Germany's better teams as they finished in the top four teams in six of the last seven seasons. Additionally, in the last two seasons, they also won the German Cup! This season, they will not be able to repeat that success, considering Wolfsburg eliminated them fairly early in the competition. In the Bundesliga, they are doing OK and are 5th with 37 points, just three points away from the Champions League spots. Still, since coming from the winter break, they have been absolutely terrible and this UCL game comes at a tricky moment for them.

Real Madrid had a poor last season, winning only Copa del Rey, which is definitely not enough for one of the biggest clubs in the world. This season, Los Blancos are looking better, and with the latest win over Girona, they are a step closer to winning the La Liga title. Right now, they are 1st with 61 points, five away from the second-placed Girona. Their only poor performance was in the Cup when Atletico Madrid eliminated them. But, besides that, Los Blancos are playing a very good season.

RB Leipzig vs Real Madrid pick: Real Madrid to win

Since the winter break, RB Leipzig are in pretty poor form, losing three of five matches. Even though they did well in the UCL, we have to be honest and say that they had a really easy group. However, when they faced a good team like Manchester City, they were totally outplayed both at home and away from it.

Real Madrid are having big problems with injuries at the back, but somehow, they are pulling it off. Los Blancos are in excellent form, winning 11 of 13 previous games, only failing to win against Atletico Madrid (once in the Cup and once in the league). In the UCL, Los Blancos were absolutely great, winning all six games!

We believe that Real Madrid are simply a better team overall, and despite having injury problems, we expect a win against out-of-form RB Leipzig.

RB Leipzig team news

Amadou Haidara missed the previous four games since he played at AFCON. He returned to Germany, but according to credible media, he suffered a knee injury and might miss around a month because of it.

After a 2:2 draw vs Augsburg, coach Marco Rose spoke to the media. He said they had many chances to take a 3:1 lead and were punished on the counterattack after missing some chances. "I think that overall, it's a fair draw. You can see that in the statistics," the coach added.

Real Madrid team news

In the previous game vs Girona, coach Ancelotti had to play without a real central back because Eder Militao, David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, and Nacho Fernandez were injured. Aurelien Tchouameni and Carvajal had to start at the back, and we might see them in the first eleven against RB Leipzig as well. Also, Thibaut Courtois will remain sidelined for the entire season with an ACL injury.

Jude Bellingham suffered a sprained ankle in the previous game against Girona and had to leave the field in the 57th minute. However, Ancelotti said that Bellingham will most likely be ready for the UCL game versus RB Leipzig.
