Having seemed destined for a humiliating early exit, Ivory Coast have performed heroics to reach Sunday's final and an explosive occasion can be expected in a rematch against tournament favourites Nigeria.

Since their first clash in the group stage, a contest in which Nigeria claimed a 1:0 victory, the Super Eagles remain unbeaten and come into this weekend's final after a tense penalty shootout victory against South Africa in the semi-finals. Ivory Coast booked their place in Sunday´s showpiece occasions with a 1:0 semi-final victory against DR Congo.

The Ivorians had needed both extra-time and penalties to overcome Senegal and Mali in previous rounds after they remarkably qualified for the last sixteen despite a thumping 4:0 defeat against Equatorial Guinea in their final group stage match. Overcoming adversities with remarkable tenacity, the Ivorian side have gained serious momentum and enters the final with a newfound sense of determination and optimism. 

Still, they have to expect their toughest assignment of the competition on Sunday with Nigeria performing consistently in both this competition, and in months gone by. The Super Eagles are now unbeaten in their last 11 competitive matches since March last year.

A tough final to call with Ivory Coast boasting home advantage, but Nigeria probably having the stronger squad, I can´t split these nations and I expect this final to go the distance. I also fancy both teams to net and I wouldn't be surprised to see a 1:1 draw on Sunday. 

Six of the last 12 AFCON finals have needed extra-time or penalties to produce a winner, and I´m banking on a similar outcome at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara.
