While football season is coming to an end in most European countries, in Latvia, that is not the case. In the 13th round, last-placed Liepaja will welcome one of the best teams in the league, Riga FC, at Daugavas Stadium in Liepāja.
Liepaja were founded only ten years ago and was mostly among the top five teams in the league, securing European Qualifiers pretty regularly. However, the start of the current season has been a pure disaster! After 12 rounds, Liepaja are sitting at last place with only eight points and already a -15 goal difference. Coach Tamaz Pertia is trying to give younger players more playing time, which is not working out for them now. So, it will be interesting to see whether he will step away from that tactic.
RIga FC finished second in the previous two years. Last year, they missed the title by one point after failing to win their last game of the season. However, they at least secured the Cup title after beating RFS. This year, they are once again looking like one of the two best teams in the league as they are currently 2nd with 25 points, three away from the first-placed RFS. Also, Riga FC won one trophy after beating RFS again, this time in the Super Cup.

Left full-back/wing-back Cheikh Faye received a straight red card in the previous game vs RFS and will be unavailable for this match. Faye started in six games before the last one vs RFS, where he entered in the 57th minute and received a red card after only two minutes.
After a 4:1 loss vs RFS, coach Tamaz Pertija spoke to the media. He said they made some mistakes, which cannot happen against such a strong team as RFS. However, he said that is understandable because he is trying to play with younger players and develop them. When asked why he did not opt for some of the more experienced players, the coach responded: "Because there are really players in whom I am very disappointed. It's not easy for me to talk about it because I invited them to the team."

After a 1:1 draw vs Valmiera, coach Simo Valakari spoke to the media. He said it was an exciting match, and a draw was probably a fair result. He also said it was a game with a lot of transition play because Valmiera likes to defend with only seven players and leave the remaining players ready for a counter-attack. He praised his players for adapting to such a tactic but noted they needed to take better care of the ball. Because whenever they lost it, Valmiera had an opportunity on the other side.
