An intriguing Champions League round of sixteen tie takes place at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday as Lazio takes on Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich arrive in Italy after a disastrous 3:0 defeat against title rivals Leverkusen in the Bundesliga this past weekend. Thomas Tuchel´s side were blown away in a display that leaves serious questions over their potential to go deep in this competition.

While the away side are big favourites to progress to the quarter-finals, Bayern´s recent struggles on the road suggest that Lazio should fancy their chances of taking some kind of a positive result on Wednesday.

Away from home, Bayern have now lost two of their last four league matches after a 5:1 thrashing by Monchengladbach in December. Worryingly for the Bavarians, they have leaked ten goals in their last four away matches. 

The Bundesliga champions did perform well in the group stage of this competition with five wins and one draw from six games played against Man Utd, FC Copenhagen and Galatasarary. Bayern won all three road games in Group A.

Lazio come into Wednesday's tie boosted by a vital 3:1 win at Cagliari on Saturday. The Romans had failed to win any of their three previous matches before their much-needed victory in Sardinia.

However, despite their indifferent form, Maurizio Sarri´s side have a strong home record which has seen them win ten and lose just one of their last 15 matches at the Olimpico.

In this competition, I Biancocelesti claimed group stage victories against Celtic and Feyenoord while they also claimed a draw against Atletico Madrid. 

A tough match to call, I expect Lazio to make this a difficult night for Bayern. Of course, the Germans won 4:1 when they last faced the Romans at this venue in 2021, and while it's hard to go against the Bundesliga champions, I do at least expect Lazio to score.

BTTS is my best bet for Wednesday´s UCL contest in a game that could go either way.
