Inter vs Empoli prediction 01.04.2024

Inter played remarkably well throughout the season, but two poor performances in the Cup vs Sassuolo and the Champions League vs Atletico Madrid (in Madrid) tainted the picture of the 2023/24 season. Yes, they are on pace to win their 20th Scudetto as they have a 14-point advantage over their city rival, AC Milan, but the general impression is that Nerazzurri were capable of more this year. Still, with only nine rounds in Serie A, it is almost impossible for them to fail to win the domestic title. It's also apparent that the bookies believe that they will win the title, as they don't currently offer odds on it. 

Since returning to Serie A, Empoli were in the lower part of the league's table in the previous two years. Still, they were not too close to being relegated as they finished 11 and 12 points away from the danger zone. However, this season looks to be more difficult as they are just one point away from the danger zone. The additional problem for the Blues is a really challenging remaining schedule, considering they will primarily face teams from the upper half of the league's table. 

Inter vs Empoli pick: Under 3.5 goals

Inter are in a mini-crisis. They won one game in the last three matches but were outplayed even in that win (1:0) against Bologna. Throughout the season, their offense looked unstoppable, but that was not the case in recent matches, as they scored only one goal per game in those three matches. So, we do not expect such a dominant offensive performance from them as we are used to.

Empoli are by far the worst offensive team in the league with only 22 scored goals in 29 matches - 0.76 per game. Additionally, they failed to score in the previous three matches vs Bologna, AC Milan, and Cagliari. Primarily due to a poor offense, Empoli was under 3.5 goals in 25 of 29 Serie A games - 86%! 

In the first h2h game this season, Inter won 1:0. Additionally, the last three h2h games finished with fewer than four goals. Considering the last h2h games, Inter's somewhat weaker recent performances, and Empoli's offensive struggles, we believe we should see fewer than four goals in this Serie match clash.
