The Finnish Veikkausliiga is very interesting this season. After the first nine rounds, the first five teams are separated by only three points. Both teams from Friday's game, Ilves and KuPS, are among them. 

Ilves are surprisingly good this season. After nine league rounds, they are only three points behind the league leader, KuPS. However, Ilves' season didn't start well (one point in three rounds), but that came six games in a row without a defeat. In the previous game, they played 1-1 at Bolt Arena against the current Veikkausliiga champion, HJK. The teams were even in almost every statistic category, so splitting points is probably the fairest outcome. 

Last season, KuPS was close to winning the Veikkauliiga title, but HJK finished with the same number of points but with a worse goal difference. KuPS started 2024 brilliantly, so they are currently the first on the table with 19 points and no defeats in the first nine rounds. In the previous game, KuPS won 4-1 at home against Ekenas. According to the stats, KuPS weren't dominant, but they were much more efficient, so Jani Honkavaara's team picked up another win.
