  • Venue: John Smith's Stadium (Huddersfield)

Huddersfield Town had a very poor last season. They were constantly in the danger zone for most of the season, but with a strong finish, they secured survival, finishing 18th - nine points away from the relegation zone. This season started very poorly for the Terriers, but recent games are a reason for the optimism.

After ten seasons in the Premier League, where they were mostly a mid-table team, Stoke City arrived in the Championship in the 2018/19 season and were nowhere close to returning to the English top-flight division. Last year, they finished 16th, tied with Huddersfield at 53 points. This season, The Potters won only six points in six rounds.

Huddersfield Town vs Stoke City pick: Huddersfield Town to (AH 0) win

Huddersfield Town lost four of the first five matches this season in all competitions. However, in the last two games, they looked very good, winning against Rotherham and West Brom and scoring four goals in those matches. Last year, the home pitch was pretty important for Huddersfield Town as they lost "only" eight times in 23 rounds.

Stoke City are in the opposite momentum than the Terriers as they lost three of the last four matches. Their only win was against Rotherham in the EFL Cup, where the Millers heavily rotated the squad. On the road, Stoke City have been atrocious this year, with three losses in three games and zero scored goals a goal so far.

In the previous season, these teams met twice, with both teams winning their home matches. With the difference in form and the home-pitch advantage, we favor Huddersfield Town a bit more in this game.

Huddersfield Town team news

According to speculations, coach Neil Warnock might be replaced after the game vs Stoke City. When asked about it, the coach said he is very proud of what they achieved and enjoyed every minute of it and did not want to comment on those speculations. As a reminder, Warnock came out of retirement in February and saved the club from relegation last season.

For this match, the team will miss Tom Lees and Oliver Turton, who are dealing with long-term injuries.

Stoke City team news

Starting full-backs Ki-Jana Hoever and Enda Stevens should miss the game with injuries, and we expect Lynden Gooch and Mehdi Leris to once again start as replacements.

The team's top goalscorer, Andre Vidigal, missed the previous three games and will most likely miss the upcoming game. Also, an important striker, Ryan Mmaee, is ruled out with a leg injury.

Besides those four, Lewis Baker and Tezgel Emre should miss the game, too, but they are only backup options for the team.

After a 1:0 to Norwich, coach Alex Neil spoke to the media. He wasn't too upset with a loss and said the injuries didn't help in the previous games. "I think we'll get some good results. We'll be fine," the coach added.
