Guatemala's golden football years were in the 1960s, as they had one Gold Cup title and two Gold Cup finals. Last year felt like a step forward with the Gold Cup quarterfinal, but since then, Guatemala recorded only one draw and two losses in three friendlies. In the previous match, they lost 2-0 against Ecuador. The South American team was much better, while Guatemala created only a few solid chances, so it is no wonder Luis Fernando Tena's team suffered a defeat.
