On Thursday evening, Greece will welcome Kazakhstan at OPAP Arena in Athens in the Semi-Finals of the Qualification Playoffs for the EURO 2024.

Greece are looking for only its fifth appearance on the EURO and its first since 2012 in Austria and Ukraine. Generally, the Greece national team has not played their best football for a long time and hasn’t appeared in any major tournament in a decade. They also competed in UEFA Nations League C three years in a row and finally managed to win their Group and advance to League B. In the EURO 2024 Qualifiers, they did fine, finishing 3^rd with 13 points in eight rounds. The teams that finished in front of them (France and Netherlands) are much better, and no one expected Greece to finish above them. So, securing the Qualification Playoffs can be considered a success.

Kazakhstan are trying to secure their first appearance in any major tournament. However, they are constantly improving, and we could see that through the UEFA Nations League. They competed in League D in 2018/19, but with two promotions in three years, they will compete in League B this season. In the EURO Qualifiers, Kazakhstan did very well and even had the opportunity to win the direct promotion, but lost to Slovenia in the last round. They will have to try to secure their historic EURO appearance through these playoffs.

Greece vs Kazakhstan pick: Both teams to score

Greece are the big favorite in this match, mainly because they play at home. They are one of the teams that plays much better at home and, in the last ten games, lost just against the Netherlands. They are scoring pretty regularly, and we do not doubt their ability to score against Kazakhstan at home.

Kazakhstan performed very well in the EURO Qualifiers group stage and scored at least a goal in nine of ten games while facing some good teams like Denmark, Finland, and Slovenia. Away from home, they showed that they were as good as at home, scoring at least a goal in all five matches. So, we think they could score against Greece, which tends to play defensive-orientated football in important matches. On the other hand, we do not believe Kazakhstan’s defense to keep a clean sheet. They even failed to do so against the worst team in the World, San Marino.
