The Fußball Arena München is the venue for the opening fixture in this summer's European Championships as hosts Germany take on Scotland.

An entertaining opener to this summer's Euro 2024 competition seems likely as Scotland return to the European Championship for the second consecutive edition. After failing to qualify for a major tournament for over 25 years, the Scots secured back-to-back qualification for the Euros with impressive victories against Spain and Norway, 

Eventually qualifying with only one defeat from eight games played, the Scots cannot be under-estimated both in this opener, and in terms of qualification from Group A. Placed alongside the Germans, Hungary and Switzerland, the Scots will feel optimistic of finally breaking their first-round hoodoo at major championships. Scotland failed to move beyond the first round in all 12 previous major tournament appearances. 

Of course, they face a stiff test in the opener with hosts Germany looking to kick-start their competition with all three points.

A tough couple of years has seen the Germans struggling badly for consistency. Now led by Julian Nagelsmann, Germany failed to win ten of 17 games played between September 2022 and November 2023. However, back-to-back friendly victories against France and Netherlands have lifted hopes of a strong performance this summer.

Despite home advantage, Germany come into this competition as third-favourites behind France and England. The host nation have only managed to win three of their last ten home fixtures, and will need to lift their game if they are to claim a first major title since 2014.

While Scotland have struggled for form in 2024 - Steve Clarke´s side have failed to win any of their last seven matches - their impressive form during qualification suggests Germany can expect a tough test in this intriguing opener.

Given the vulnerability of both teams' defence, I expect at least three goals scored in Munich, with the Scots capable of scoring. Germany have kept just three clean sheets in their last 24 international fixtures.

Over 2.5 goals is my preferred pick, while I´m also backing BTTS in a likely entertaining opening fixture at Euro 2024.
