In the first round of the Jupiler Pro League, Conference League Group, 1st-placed Gent will welcome 4th-placed Standard Liege at KAA Gent Arena in Gent.

Gent had a very good first part of the season in all competitions. However, after the Winter break, they totally collapsed and were knocked out of the Cup and the Europa Conference League and dropped to 7th place in the league. Even though they had the same number of points as Cercle Brugge and Genk, they ended up in the Conference League Group because of worse h2h stats and goal difference. Still, with the latest 5:0 win vs Charleroi, the Buffaloes made a good introduction for the final part of the season. 

Standard Liege were around the middle of the table for the majority of the season. They finished the regular phase in 10th place, but with only 34 points in 30 rounds, they were much closer to the relegation Group (five points) than the Championship Group (13 points). The Reds are starting the Conference League Group with seven points behind the 1st-placed Gent, and even though it is still early, this is a must-win game for them to close the gap.

Gent vs Standard Liege pick: Over 2.5 goals

Gent averaged 1.77 goals per game in the regular phase and were the fifth-best offense in the league. However, at home, the Buffaloes are even better, with 34 goals scored in 15 rounds (2.27). Only Club Brugge were better than them with one more scored goal. Mostly due to a good offense, Gent were over 2.5 goals in 80% of their home league games.

Lately, Standard Liege have played mostly high-scoring games and was over 2.5 goals in four of the last five matches. 

In the previous h2h game, which took place only about 20 days ago, Standard Liege won 4:2 at home. Additionally, the last four h2h games finished with three or more goals. Considering these and the other factors mentioned above, we believe we will see at least three goals, most likely with both teams scoring.
