Fulham vs Newcastle United prediction 27.01.2024

Following the defeat in the Carabao Cup Semi-Finals, Fulham will welcome Newcastle United in the FA Cup 1/16 Finals at Craven Cottage in London. 

Fulham are playing another solid season, at least by their standards. Last season, they secured the 10th place, and even though they are slightly worse in the Premier League this season, the Cottagers are doing very well in the Cup competitions. As we mentioned, they reached the Semi-Finals in the Carabao Cup and did well against Liverpool but eventually lost 3:2 on aggregate. In the Premier League, Fulham are 13th - eight points away from the danger zone, although with a game more. The main issue with Fulham this season is their poor road record, but even with that, the Cottagers look like a mid-table team once again. 

Newcastle are coming to this season after one of the most impressive ones in a long time. The Magpies finished 4th in the Premier League, finally securing the Champions League for the first time since the 2002/03 season. However, the current season, and especially the last part of it, is not going according to plan, as they lost eight of the previous ten games. During that time, they were eliminated from the Champions League and Carabao Cup and significantly dropped in the standings on the league's table. Right now, they are 10th with 21 points, already 14 points away from the desired 4th place.

Fulham vs Newcastle United pick: Fulham to win or draw

Fulham lost twice in the last five games, but both times away from home, against good teams - Chelsea and Liverpool. However, we cannot say they performed poorly even in those losses. At Craven Cottage, Fulham have been really good through the season, losing only four of 14 games in all competitions while securing some really impressive wins vs Arsenal, West Ham, and Tottenham. 

The difference in Fulham's performance in the Premier League at home and away from it is massive as they average 1.8 points per game at home, compared to only 0.55 away from it. 

Newcastle United are in terrible form, with eight losses in the last ten games in all competitions. One reason is a pretty challenging schedule, but numerous injuries also played a significant factor. Away from home, the Magpies are on a terrible run, winning just against a Championship side, Sunderland, in the last nine games! Thus, we do not believe that they will win against Fulham, a very good home team.
