Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles face off on Sunday evening in Holland’s premier division, with both sides looking to finish the 2023-24 campaign strongly.

The hosts have done very well in the second part of the campaign. Ron Jans’ side enter this weekend’s game with just two defeats from their last twelve league games and took points off fourth placed AZ Alkmaar in that spell. The Cathedral citizens hit Sparta Rotterdam for three earlier this week in what was their ninth in ten league on home soil and will be looking for a similar display here.

Go Ahead Eagles have won just two of their last eight league games but they are not very far from their hosts in the league standings. The visitors sit four points below Utrecht in ninth and will get encouragement from the fact that they lost just one of their last three Eredivisie visits to Stadion Galgenwaard.

Utrecht have been in the form of their lives in recent months but there is room for improvement in the defensive side of their game. Indeed, Ron Jans’ men managed to keep a clean sheet in only one of their last nine Eredivisie outings. They, themselves scored averagely two goals a game in that spell and both teams scored in seven of those fixtures.

Go Ahead Eagles have also been struggling defensively. The visitors finished just one of their last eight matches without conceding, but that lone clean sheet was away from home.  They conceded at least two goals in each of their last two meetings with Utrecht and I think this run will continue this weekend.
